Tips and Advice

8 Great Ways to Accessorize and Appear 10 Pounds Thinner

1) Dress monochromatically to appear taller and thinner.
Add you own personal style with accessories.

2) Draw attention up to your face by wearing earrings the size of a quarter or larger, long necklaces or a bright scarf. Remember the golden fashion rule never leave home without your lipstick and earrings!

3) Push up those long sleeves! It will shave pounds off your mid section.

4) Remember proportion – accessories should be in proportion to your real size.

5) Add small shoulder pads to sweaters and other knit tops to create balance
and make your hips appear smaller.

6) Choose necklines that are v-neck, scoop neck or open collars.
Layer long necklaces to create a vertical style line that slenderizes.

7) Add color to your outfit with a great shrug, wrap or a colorful shawl.
These are very fashionable and functional for the cooler fall months.

8) Don’t throw away those old clip earrings, use them as a lapel pin or slide on a choker.

EIGHT GREAT SWEATERS

By Valerie Weaver

When you think of sweater dressing, does the collection of old cardigans and turtlenecks in your closet come to mind? If so, it’s time to get out of your old sweater rut and step out in style. Knit dressing is one of this season’s hottest trends and there is something for everyone regardless of your personal taste, style and budget. Whether you’re a glam gal or lean more towards the classic traditional look, this season's sweater collections include chunky knits, luxurious cashmere, embellished necklines and faux fur. From shrugs to sweater coats they offer versatility and can be worn for any occasion. From holiday gatherings to a casual winter weekend getaway, we found lots of options for you to choose from. You won’t have to sacrifice fashion for function as these selections provide both. Choose sweaters that work well with what you already own for a quick wardrobe update. Your one investment piece should be a black cashmere turtleneck. It is a timeless wardrobe staple that you will only replace when you have worn it out, trust me on this one. The only regret you may have is that you didn’t own one sooner!

Here are a few updated styles, and tips to help you choose and wear the sweater
that fits, flatters and feels good.

Shrugs – This short bolero-style sweater worn over a longer tunic or camisole is still going strong. Try wearing it over all one color but vary your fabrics to create interest. With gray being the big color this season, I found this one with the faux fur trim to be a fun inexpensive
update to your collection.

TJ Maxx
$29

Sweater Coats – An oldie but goodie that looks brand new this season. They look best when the length hits at knee, and worn with skinny jeans and boots or leggings and ballet flats. This copper metallic side button sweater coat was one of my favorites. Great for holiday dressing and will take you right into the cold winter months.

The Limited
$98

Sweater Vests – They are still a favorite and make for a great layering piece .Wear alone or under a jacket or blazer to keep you warm and toasty. This colorful argyle vest brought in a punch of color, and the lilac ribbed turtleneck is just one of many colors that would work with it.

Talbots
Sweater Vest $78
Ribbed Turtleneck $38

Embellished – Add a little glam to your jeans long after the holidays are over. Don’t pack away the sequins, feathers and fur until spring. Both of these embellished sweaters paired with a dressy bottom will take you to any party and even Valentines Day that is just around the corner.

The Chameleon
Black & Silver $64
Deep Berry $79

Cardigans – Belted, sleeveless and longer in length, this classic has a new updated look. They can be worn over a casual turtleneck or a sexy camisole. What I liked about this chunky, cap sleeve look is all the different colors that would work with it. It can be worn belted or loose, with jeans or dress pants and the price was right too.

Target
$24

Color – Don’t let your sweater collection become too drab. Winter in Erie doesn’t mean wearing all black and gray. Choose a bright color that will work with your neutrals. This lime green ribbed turtleneck, accented with silver buttons and bell sleeves is eye catching and unique. Lime green will work well with most any basic neutral color.

Macy’s
$59

Classic with Style – Whether you are heading out to the ski resort, a home party or outdoor winter activity, this sweater will send you off in style. This Nordic style with scattered sequins reflects a texture and pattern that looks both classic and very stylish. This sweater will last you for years and will always be one of your favorites I guarantee it!
